Matt Pless “Ivy Juniper”
Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Matt Pless’ song “Ivy Juniper” from his recently released album Water Sign Language. It was produced by Pete Steinkopf and Christopher H Fogal at Black In Bluhm.
“Ivy Juniper” is Matt Pless on guitar and vocals.
As Matt tells us, ” I thought the obvious traveling girl train hop road trip rambler video was too cliche for the song ‘Ivy Juniper.’ So I figured a Ballerina dancing in unexpected environments that somewhat contrasted her elegance would be an interesting way to illustrate this song. Not so much a literal interpretation but more so an artistic atmospheric piece with no clear direction, as aimless and carefree as the subject of the song itself. This is one of my favorite pieces of music I’ve ever written.
This video was filmed in Baltimore MD by Jak Kerley/Shibby Pictures with assistant editor Juli Wert.
A folk song, set in a video with train tracks and an easygoing, breezy folk vibe. This song celebrates innocence: “Have you heard about that girl? With the bandit boots and the cowboy smile / Call her Ivy Juniper / She’s a highway child, pretty misty eyes / Rugged and rough with a diamond shine / Sweet and sassy like moonlight wine.” Sometimes a good folk song is just what you need, and this is one of those rare songs that will fill all your expectations for a joyful, light experience.
