Jeff Mamett “Bless the Hands”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Jeff Mamett’s song “Bless the Hands” from his forthcoming album Fortunate Son, which is set for release on August 21. Fortunate Son was recorded at Jumping Dog Studio in Austin Texas. It was produced and mixed by Ron Flynt, and mastered by Jerry Tubb of Terra Nova Mastering Studio.
Musicians on “Bless the Hands” are Jeff Mamett on vocals and acoustic guitar; Scrappy Jud Newcomb on electric and acoustic guitar; Mark Epstein on upright bass; John Chipman on drums and percussion; Katie Shore on fiddle and background vocals; and Ron Flynt on piano and background vocals.
As Jeff Mamett tells us, “’Bless the Hands’ began with a horse I shared more than thirty years with. I sat down thinking I was writing about him, but somewhere along the way the song became about something larger. Sooner or later, most of us are faced with a goodbye we’re not ready for. Sometimes the last thing we can do for someone we love is also the hardest. This song grew out of that place.”
Classic and moving, this song taps into the most honest and vulnerable of human emotions. Jeff Mamet has a knack for crafting a sad song about that goodbye we never seem to be ready for, and his vision for cushioning the sentiment in a timeless and comforting musical milieu feels like home.
