Lauren Lucas “Bringing Me Home”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Lauren Lucas’ song “Bringing Me Home” (co-written with Anne Buckle) from her forthcoming album, which was produced by Anne Buckle and mastered by Alex McCullough for True East Mastering.
“Bringing Me Home” is Lauren Lucas on vocals and background vocals; and Anne Buckle on guitars, percussion and other instruments.
This is a relatable song about being on the run and then ultimately learning to find yourself: “I was hiding in the shadows, carried any way the wind blows…” Peaceful and thoughtful. We chatted briefly with Lauren about the song.
Americana Highways: Can you tell me about the style of this song, “Bringing Me Home”?
Lauren Lucas: Sonically, “Bringing Me Home” leans into a swampy Americana groove with the kind of soulful melodies I gravitate towards writing. At its core, the song is about identity; letting go of striving and finding your way back home to yourself through surrender.
AH: Can you share some about the process, the way this song came to be written?
LL: “Bringing Me Home” came about on the very first co-write I had with Anne Buckle. Anne is such a stellar track producer, writer and multi-instrumentalist. To prep for the write, we had already talked about my style leaning soulful Americana. She had this stomp/clap feel and cool guitar riff going when I walked into the room. I think I had the title “Bringing Me Home” and started singing a chorus melody under it.
At first we thought maybe this would be a love song about someone who feels like home, but as we continued to write the verses, this new thing emerged. The lyric morphed organically into this idea of identity and coming home to yourself.
I love when songs surprise me during the writing process; like a sculptor chipping away at the block of stone revealing what was meant to be there all along.
