Steve Baskin and the Fourteens “I Don’t Know Nothing (Love Song)”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Steve Baskin and the Fourteens’ song “I Don’t Know Nothing,” from their forthcoming album I Sometimes Think (Better). The album was produced by Steve Baskin and Rich Herring, and recorded by Lee Davis at Lee Davis Studio in Maysville, GA and Steve Baskin at Underground Studios in Atlanta, GA. It was engineered and mastered by Rich Herring, with photography by Kevin Garrett and cover design by Giuli Hull.
“I Don’t Know Nothing (Love Song) is Steve Baskin on vocals, background vocals acoustic guitar, and mandolin; Roger Brainard on electric guitar; Mark Sobus on bass; Geoff Gill on drums; Mark van Allen on pedal steel; Lee Davis on Hammond organ and piano; and Mary Gill and Nina Gill on background vocals.
As Steve tells us, “This was the first song of mine that I ever played for my wife. We had just met, so she was pretty clear that it wasn’t about her, and I knew that if this this thing lasted, I was on the hook to write hers. I’ve written several since.”
Swirls of organ, pedal steel and harmonies buoy this universally relatable love song. It’s not so much a typical “love song,” as it is rather a song about opening to how we want to love and be loved: “I don’t want anyone else but you / To hold me through the night / To wake to you in the light / Take my hand to carry me through each day / And reassure me that heaven’s on the way / I don’t know nothing / About you.”
