Sky Smeed “Nine To Five”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Sky Smeed’s song “Nine To Five” from his forthcoming solo album Live At Rock House, which is set for release on April 3. This song, though, will be available on January 30. The album was recorded live at the Rock House in Reeds Spring, Missouri by Barak Hill on January 18th, 2025. It was mixed and mastered by Clarke Wyatt, with photography by John Knepper and album design by Magic Bullet.
Hailing from Lawrence, Kansas, Sky’s songwriting reflects a simplicity that expresses widespread universalisms. As Sky tells us, “The idea for this song came about while I was at the grocery store and Johnny Paycheck’s “Take This Job and Shove It” started playing on the speakers. I took it as a sign.”
Sky tells stories that are touching, honest with touches of humor in the lineage of Todd Snider, for example: I wake up early, and I come home late, feeling like a cold hotdog on a styrofoam plate.” It’ll make you smile as you understand at the same time exactly what it means.
