JD Hinton “Should Have Said Hello”

Americana Highways is hereby hosting JD Hinton’s song “Should Have Said Hello,” the title track from his forthcoming EP set for release in January. The EP was produced by Justin Glasco and mixed by Ryan Lipman.

“Should Have Said Hello” is JD Hinton on vocals; Rick Solem on piano; Taylor Kropp on guitar; Joel Gottschalk on bass; and Darryl Phinnessee on background vocals.

As JD says, “Reflection is threaded through this time of year. It’s when we get together with “… people near and dear to us.” I would add the “songs near and dear to us,” too. My song “Should Have Said Hello” has its place in this reflection. A real life New Year’s Day moment in a long-ago New Orleans, prompted a lifetime memory. I’ve had a wonderful year with the songs I’ve recorded. This year’s EPs will always carry memories of the musicians who brought their magic into the studio and the listeners who took my songs into their hearts.”

2025 has emerged as a defining year for JD Hinton, marked by a remarkable run of releases that underscore both his artistic depth and growing critical acclaim. His EP So Close So Far set the tone early, earning Album of the Month honors by Americana UK and reaffirming his standing as one of the genre’s most vivid storytellers. Not only was it named Album of the Month in June, Americana UK also very recently named So Close So Far one of the Top EP’s of 2025. Across these releases, Hinton’s sagacious, cinematic narratives—reminiscent of the work of fellow Texan Dave Alvin—unfold with the precision of a screenwriter and the lived-in wisdom of a seasoned road poet. Whether delivering guitar-driven intensity or revealing a softer, melodic vulnerability, Hinton continues to blur the lines between song and short film, solidifying 2025 as a pivotal chapter in an already formidable career.

This is a great song with honest, rootsy appeal.
