As Shane tells us, “Hitting The Backroads” was written about the monotony of driving the same highways and interstates while traveling the Southwestern, US for shows, primarily-New Mexico. But also about longing for a simpler life, more like the country life of my youth.”
Shane has one of those voices that sounds instantly authentic, as he ranges over a couple of octaves but always sounds comforting, somehow. This song has the easygoing grace of 70s style country folk, with a timeless longing for backroads, solitude, and a simpler existance: “I spend my day out on the roads, Somewhere out in New Mexico, Mostly interstates and Highways, The same old byways, I can’t say that it don’t grow old, I can’t say that I have been sold on city living, The price that I’ve been giving”
