Mountain Climer “Every Other Weekend”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Mountain Climer’s song “Every Other Weekend,” written by Jeremy Climer. It was produced and engineered by Paul Mahern at Primary Sound Studios in Bloomington, IN and at Mahern Audio in Bloomington, IN.
“Every Other Weekend” is Jeremy Climer on vocals, guitar and B3; Devon Ashley on drums and percussion; Heidi Gluck on bass, piano and vocals; and Shannon Hayden on guitar.
With an uplifting beat, this song is about how that one hot night led to a baby and then… one thing led to another and it all slipped away. “I let you down..every other weekend I’m reminded of a life I left behind.” Too many of us have been there, and this song nails the feeling of never fully being able to let go and start over.
As Jeremy says, “This song was written back around 2010 and hung around for a reason. My friend was going through a separation at the time (they worked it out) but as a child of divorce myself, I told him to exhaust all possibilities for his twin daughters before divorcing. Their story was common, they kind of accidentally fell into a very good thing and then they both got complacent and almost lost it all.
“Paul is a great captain. He’s like a great coach who schemes around his players’ skill sets. He made very few suggestions to my songs and let me and the musicians mostly do what we do with the exception of some minor suggestions, like playing a reference track in the control room before recording to get the vibe in everyone’s head. However, this is one of the songs he really got his hands dirty on when we did vocals. This really wouldn’t be what it is without his input and what I learned from him while doing vocals made me a better songwriter, recording engineer and singer. Also, kudos to Heidi who came up with the harmonies and response vocal on her own from her home studio. It’s a crime she’s not a household name as an artist.”
