Kirby Lyle “Joy”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Kirby Lyle’s song “Joy” from his forthcoming EP. The EP was produced and engineered with artwork design by Kirby Lyle with percussion engineering by Nick Rapley, mixing by Brook Sutton, and mastering by Eric Conn.

Musicians on “Joy” are Kirby Lyle on vocals, guitar and auxiliary percussion;  Maya de Vitry on vocals and violin; Ethan Jodziewicz on bass; Alex Genova on banjo; and Nick Rapley on percussion.

As Kirby tells us about the song, “’Joy’ is a call to find joy where you are, to plant roots with gratitude and defend them with integrity,” says Lyle. “It’s about remembering what we’re fighting for. The tribal percussion driving that single lyric in the chorus, ‘Hey!’, is a reminder that optimism and wonder are the foundation of hope. I was lucky to have Maya de Vitry bring her soulful Appalachian fiddle and vocals, and Alex Genova add his melodic, heartfelt banjo. The song feels calming yet intense, polite yet urgent, something that belongs both at the campfire and on the stage.”

This is a holiday song but its essence is any time, universal: “Happiness comes when I set myself free, this is my life, bring in the joy.” Vocals following one another up and down, the purity of joy and a touch of bells all create a quite magical effect.
