Hawk in the Nest self-titled

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Hawk in the Nest’s self-titled song from their forthcoming self-titled album. The album was produced by Wolfgang Zimmerman, Avi Jacob and Joel Hamilton; mixed and mastered by Wolfgang Zimmerman at The Space in Charleston, S.C. All words and and music were by Avi Jacob, with cover photo by Andrew Cebulka, and album layout and design by Cecilia Marks.

Musicians on “Hawk in the Nest” are Avi Jacob on lead vocals, guitars and mellotron;  Wolfgang Zimmerman on drums;  Noah Jones on keys and background vocals; and  Joel Hamilton on  bass and background vocals.

Avi Jacob notes about the way this song was born, “‘Hawk in the Nest’ was about a hawk I saw in my backyard. It made me think about feeling free. But also how messed up our modern world is, with dating apps and texting. I had written everything but the last verse in about 15 minutes. I knew it needed something else, but I had to hop on the subway to work. I was playing it over and over in my head and finally the last verse just came to me all at once and I started crying on the subway as I was hustling to work.”

There’s really lovely piano and guitar playing on this song and Avi’s vocals are pure expression as the song climbs to an emotionally vulnerable crescendo: “staring at your phone to distract from your pain, those are words on a screen, I need your love to be here with me.”
