Robin Taylor Zander “Don’t Want To Say Goodbye”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Robin Taylor Zander’s version of the Raspberries’ song “Don’t Want to Say Goodbye” from his forthcoming self-titled album, which is set for release on October 17. The album was produced by Jack Douglas and Robin Taylor Zander; mixed by Jack Douglas and Jay Messina; and mastered by Howie Weinberg Mastering.
“Don’t Want To Say Goodbye” is Robin Taylor Zander on guitars, drums, bass, keyboards, and vocals.
As Robin tells us, “’Don’t Want To Say Goodbye’ was a pleasure to work on. I grew up listening to The Raspberries and was very familiar with Eric Carmen’s work at an early age. We had a lot of those records at home, I’d sit with my boombox and play along trying to learn the bass parts as a kid. Definitely shaped my musical upbringing. My earliest memory of this band was listening to “Go All the Way” when I was little and staring at that deep blue self titled album cover
“The recording was done all at my home studio so it has a lo-fi quality to it that I really like. I basically made the demo and started building off of the original piano track. I play everything you hear on the recording.
“I hope, if anything, that people who listen to this song further explore The Raspberries catalog, the first few records really shaped the genre “Power Pop,” they were one of the pioneers along with bands like Big Star, Sweet, Cheap Trick, amongst others…
“I’m thrilled to be apart of this tribute, with so many great artists doing some amazing covers. Many thanks to Ken Sharp and everyone else who was involved/put this together, enjoy!”
Robin captures the magic of the early ’70s with this one and happily, disperses it 50 some-odd years later. It’s full of wonder and optimism wrapped in a twinge of sorrow and regret, and all candy for the ears: “I’m gonna try a little harder.”
