Dude Cervantes and the Panchos “Lesson Learned”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Dude Cervantes and the Panchos’ song “Lesson Learned” from their forthcoming album The Ride or Die of Dude Cervantes and The Panchos, which is scheduled for release on Nov 28 via Blind Owl Records.  The album was produced by Dude Cevantes and recorded Live at The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, California.

“Lesson Learned” is Dude Cervantes on guitar and vocals; Dylan Donovan on guitar; Justin De La Vega on drums; Ryan Grenda on bass and vocals with special guest Jody Bagley on Fender Rhodes.

Dude tells us about the song, “I wrote this song about an ill-fated trip to Bryce Canyon National Park in the fall of 2019. At 1 a.m., on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere while searching for an Airbnb, my car hit a massive rock and broke down. I was with my wife and our dog Elvis (RIP), who stepped on the window button just as the car battery died. It was 10 degrees outside, and there was no cell service in the area.

‘What followed was a long, dark night of huddling in the back with jackets to stay warm, trying to dig the car out in the freezing cold, and walking around searching for reception to call AAA for help. Two tow trucks later, my phone died, and then a random guy showed up at 5 a.m. We watched the sunrise as we were hauled from wherever we were to a town called Cedar City, Utah, about an hour and a half away.

“It was a holiday weekend, the Shakespeare Festival was in full swing, and the only rental we could find was a massive U-Haul moving truck. We drove it around town to kill time while waiting for repairs and eventually made it to Bryce Canyon!

“A week later, our car was declared totaled—the rock had struck the vehicle’s hybrid battery right where we bottomed out. We finally managed to snag a proper rental in the next town over (St. George, Utah) and drove back home to San Diego, CA. Lesson Learned.”

This song tells a wild tale with suspense that builds to a glorious, whirlwind ending.  Some days just don’t go as planned, and this song explores that concept with style: “there’s a lesson to be learned every day. what’ll it be? let’s see which way the wind blows.” Dude Cervantes and the Panchos turn a day of disaster into a celebration with this rock n roll catharsis.
