Dallas Burrow – “Colorado Bound” featuring Kelly Willis

“Colorado Bound” featuring Kelly Willis, from Dallas’ forthcoming album The Way The West Was Won, out Sept 26th on Forty Below Records. The West Was Won was produced by Lloyd Maines and engineered by Pat Manske at The Zone in Dripping Springs, Texas.
Musicians on “Colorado Bound” are Pat Manske on percussion, Kelly Willis on vocals, Katie Shore on fiddle, Lloyd Maines on dobro, bass, and acoustic guitar, and Dallas Burrow on vocals and acoustic guitar.
Rich and vibrant, this song opens into hushed and honest expressions of admiration for someone who really got away and dove into anonymity. Dallas really conveys the release of shedding your roles and woes, Kelly Willis’ joining on vocals rounds it out at a deep level: “In your head you were counting all your lucky stars. Ain’t no one gonna find, if you don’t want to be found. Leave your troubles all behind me, darlin’ you are Colorado Bound.”
Dallas tells us, “This song, as Lloyd Maines commented in the studio, is very much in the tradition of a Townes Van Zandt style story song. Our subject is catching a train, running away from their old life, crossing the great plains, and heading for a new start in the mountains of Colorado. I pictured as I wrote it, that this was all sort of set in the old west, with the image of an 1800s era train platform, and a coal fired locomotive. I had the great honor once again of having one of my all time favorite singers join me on this one, this time, the lovely and talented Ms. Kelly Willis adds her signature, golden voice to this song’s landscape. Coincidentally, I realized after I had written the song, that there is actually a Townes Van Zandt song by the same name. Once again, this track is brought to life by Katie Shore’s world class fiddle playing.’
