Phil Madeira “Lesson of Love”

Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of  Phil Madeira’s song“Lesson Of Love” from his recently released album Falcon, which was released via Mercyland Records. The album was produced and recorded by Phil, mixed by Russ Long and mastered by Richard Dodd.

“Lesson of Love” is Phil Madeira on piano and vocals and Chris Donohue on upright bass.

The video was directed, produced, and animated with concept by Kurt Lightner, with Eric Schouten as executive video producer.  Thoughtful with just Phil’s compelling voice and piano, the song about folks who are fearful and shut down, as they “take the hard line / gotta play tough / you still haven’t learned the lesson of love, nobody every prayed the truth away, you can’t get nothing if you don’t have grace.” These days, a lot of folks push away and reject their own kids for their differences, and this kind of bound-up tension affects so much that the lesson of love could release. Phil presents this concept gently and with considerable grace. The video is endearing and really captures the feeling of inhibitions and rejection inherent in the scene, as the animation suggest the love that the song offers hope for.

Phil tells us that “Ironically, the simplest song on the record (from a production standpoint) is the one that I feel is most needed in our world right now. Compassion, acceptance, and grace are a rare commodity in American society at this hour.”
