Andrew Adkins “A Mouthful of Blood”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Andrew Adkins’ song “A Mouthful of Blood” from his forthcoming album Superior Vena Cava, which is set for release on September 12. Superior Vena Cava was produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Andrew Adkins.

The video was directed and shot by Cottonbro. Funky, kaleidoscopic and psychedelic, the video aptly supports the ambiguity and lack of clarity involved in a “situationship,” which is this song’s whole reason for being. There’s a dissonance in the unfocused nature of such relationships, and it’s intrinsically kaleidoscopic. Andrew brings these elements to the fore in the music with its muddy low end and in the sardonic lines like “singing love songs with a mouthful of blood.”
Around a year ago, I was just getting out of a “situationship,” and a week or so later, I broke a tooth and developed a bad tooth infection as a result. I had to wait a week before I could get in to see my dentist. In the interim, one evening, I sat down at a synthesizer with my guitar. The song poured out in around 20 minutes. My mouth was literally full of blood as I wrote this song, hence the inspiration for the title. – Andrew Adkins
