Nate Currin – “The Highway”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Nate Currin’s song “The Highway” from his forthcoming album Ghost Town. Ghost Town was recorded and mixed by Matthew Odmark for Original Masters in Nashville, and mastered by Pete Lyman. Photography for the album is by Christina Frary.

“The Highway” is Nate Currin on acoustic guitar and vocals; Aksel Coe on drums; Stephen Mason on bass; Charlie Lowell on keys; Matt Koziol on electric guitars; and Corrina Hardesty on background vocals.

This song serves several layers of meaning with its highways metaphor and a poignant confessional tale of pursuit of the ultimate version of soul mate love. Sometimes it doesn’t work out the way it feels like it should. Nate’s vocal delivery is believable and honest, and it’s all delivered in a stripped back arrangement grounded in an authentic feel.

This song means so much to me personally. I’ve written over 400 songs, and I think ‘The Highway’ most adequately expresses the love I felt for a once-in-a-lifetime kind of woman. I just won’t settle for anything less than a flame that ignites a fire in my chest. I wrote this after a long trip north to see a woman I hadn’t seen in many years. I fell in love with her, and this song was the beginning of our journey together. After many years driving hundreds of highways, I was hoping she’d be the one to pull me off the highway for good. Fate didn’t have it that way, unfortunately, and hence the eerie sounds to this track… I’m still out there on the highway, searching for that one who will forever pull me off for good. – Nate Currin
