Greta Gaines “Coming to Fruition”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Greta Gaines’ song “Coming to Fruition” from her forthcoming album Bird Before Light, which is set for release on August 29. Bird Before Light was produced by Jim Reilley; mixed by Devin Spear; and recorded at Cartoon Moon.

“Coming to Fruition” is Greta on vocals and acoustic guitar; Ken Cooper on drums; Jim Reilley on bass; Kevin Roentgen on electric guitar; and Eric Fritsch on piano and keyboard.  Watching your fledglings leave the nest is one of life’s most poignant, bittersweet transitions. Greta Gaines transforms this experience into a beautiful, electric roots rock song that’s uplifting and moving: “sometimes hour by hour it’s a twisted fate / I want you to stay, but I raised you to fly.”

I wrote this song (the first from the new album Bird Before Light) in direct emotional response to my older son leaving for college. It’s a bittersweet song about the joys of having all of your hardwork in child raising come to fruition mixed with the grief that comes with letting go. “I’ll miss your sunshine, but you can’t stay all mine” is a line of resignation in the song tinged with pride and hope. I know that it’s time for my children to fly from the nest, I just want them to feel how much they are loved here at home before they do. – Greta Gaines
