Reed Turchi – “Walk With Me”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Reed Turchi’s version of the Junior Kimbrough song “Walk With Me” from Reed’s forthcoming album World on Fire, which is set to be released on May 30. World on Fire was recorded and mixed by David Turk at Second Take Sound, NYC and mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound, with the cover photo taken by Jacob Blickenstaff. This record is vintage blues and spiritual tunes that are traditionals and widely played songs, mainly garnered from trips to Mississippi and from a lifetime listening to the music that originated there.  All of them pay homage to the pain and solitude of the human experience through gripping, sparse arrangement.

Reed’s painful physical experience and brush with mortality led him to pare things down to their most essential fundamentals, in life as well as in his musical focus. This album will touch your soul. “Walk With Me” is Reed Turchi on guitar and vocals; Eric Burns on guitar;  Seth Barden on bass; and Joseph Yount on drums.

This video was filmed by Brad Wagner and recorded by David Turk. Steeped in and influenced early by the North Mississippi Hill Country blues, Reed crafts songs that are as dark and muddy as they are confessional. Folks that the lyricist is walking with are shadowy and shrouded as the slide guitar and the vocals belie the truth of isolation and the fear therein: “don’t leave me alone, Lord, don’t leave me alone / I want Jesus to walk with me.”

Of the song, Reed explains: “‘Walk With Me’ is a song seeking companionship, epitomized in the way the voice and slide-guitar call out to each other like two trains in the night.”
