Rachael Sage “Canopy”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Rachael Sage’s song “Canopy” from her pending album due out later this year. “Canopy” was produced by Rachael Sage and engineered by Mikhail Pivovarov. Musicians on the song are Rachael Sage on lead and background vocals, acoustic guitar, Wurlitzer, hand percussion, and handclaps; Andy Mac on drums with Doug Yowell on additional drums; Kelly Halloran on violin and background vocals; Dave Eggar on cello; Mikhail Pivovarov on electric bass and handclaps; James Mastro on lap-steel and electric guitar; Rob Curto on Hammond B3 organ; Kevin J. Killen on background vocals and handclaps; and Annalyse McCoy and Ryan Dunn on background vocals.
This is a song that gently and artfully implores us all to heal, which is something we collectively need quite desperately. “Come with me and hold my hand, you don’t have to understand, you just have to want to heal the insanity” Rachael sings with her transcendental vocals as the colorful backdrop plays like a cathartic kaleidoscope. Rachael is what you’d consider a colorful artist, both figuratively and literally, and this song and its observations are hooky and lovely as it breathes truth.
Rachael discusses the song, saying: “The absence of women’s voices and their active presence on the world stage is a lot of what has contributed to the violence we currently see, militarily and environmentally. Creating safety and inclusivity in times of divisiveness can be a radical and powerful act; it takes courage to stand up for justice and for our fellow human beings, and through the message of this song I am trying to inspire each of us – including myself – to boldly do that for one another even when it may be uncomfortable or go against the cultural grain to do so.”
