Ian Abel Band “HOME”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Ian Abel Band’s song “HOME” from his forthcoming album. The song was mixed by Jon Graber with additional vocal engineering by Evan Redwine, and it was mastered by Pete Lyman (Stapleton) with assistance from Daniel Bacigalupi.
“HOME” is Ian Abel on vocals and all guitars; John Venezia on drums; Phil Anthony on bass; Charlie Lowell (Jars of Clay) on organ/piano; and Kayley Bishop on background vocals.
In Abel’s signature riveting blend of honky tonk psychedelia, this song sets up an easy pace as it unfolds the tale of gritty struggling. The lyrical protagonist is working at the gas station, battling addictions, and longing for home and a settled life: “don’t deem her the devil ’cause she wouldn’t settle for being left home alone.” As it progresses, Ian Abel ascends to the loftiest of heights with power guitar and organ supporting him on the way, and the result is a whole unique style, which is quite an admirable accomplishment.
I really tried to be as honest as I could with this one. Not just to the listener, but for myself.
This song is like the first necessary cordial sit down between two powerful entities (Country & Prog-Rock). For me, it’s a step in the right direction sonically. The young listener that I formerly was, bouncing between Stapleton and Pink Floyd, or Isbell and Bowie, would be elated to see those forces start to align.
There is Honky Tonk guitar, Stadium Rock choruses, storytelling, space rock guitar solos and what feels like the proper first look into my soul. Outside of my work with Cody Rhodes, I’ve never been prouder to release something for the world to hear. – Ian
