David Starr – “Lonesome Train”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of David Starr’s song “Lonesome Train” from his forthcoming album Must Be Blue, which is due to be available on April 25 via Quarto Valley Records. The album was produced by David Starr and Mark Prentice; recorded and mixed by David Kalmusky at Addiction Sound Studios in Nashville; and mastered by Pete Lyman of Infrasonic Nashville.
“Lonesome Train” is David Starr on vocals and acoustic guitar; Erik Stucky on mandolin; Mark Prentice on bass and keyboards; Matt Bubel on drums; and Rob McNelley on slide guitar.
Set up on what could well be the next theme song for a Bond movie, this is a driving blues song showcasing David Starr’s heavier and more rebellious side. Notably, Rob McNelley’s slide guitar is formidable on this absolutely outstanding harbinger of the electric blues album to come.
I just love the energy of this song – it doesn’t matter if I’m playing an acoustic show with my mandolin player Erik Stucky or a full band rocking affair – it translates to a crowd either way. It was so fun to put my own spin on it with such incredible players in Nashville, transforming it from its original Rockabilly form to a pedal to the metal Blues song. – David Starr
