Murray Attaway – “Breath”

Americana Highways presents this video premiere of Murray Attaway’s song “Breath” from his forthcoming album Tense Music Plays, which will be released on May 9th via Moon Ray Sound. Tense Music Plays was produced by Mark Williams (Joe Walsh, Southern Culture on the Skids) and Murray Attaway, and mastered by Dave Harris. It was recorded at Orlok Labs both East and West, in Atlanta and in Palos Verdes, California, with additional material recorded at Selma Beard Spurlin Studios in Marietta, Georgia.

Musicians on “Breath” are Murray Attaway on guitar and vocals; and Robert Schmid on drums and bass.

This video was created by Jodi Hersh with footage of Murray (of Guadalcanal Diary) playing this song with sepiatones and a little bit of dissonance to catch your attention, which it immediately does. It’s all carried along by the guitar melodies.  In spite of your best intentions at keeping up appearances, do you need a cathartic release, something that speaks truth to your core and lets you release some pain and tears?  This song is the elixir you didn’t know you needed right now.  “The alchemy of sorrow. / Centuries spent on my knees In hopes of some forgiving / Days roll past behind a mask / Of imitation living / And it almost takes my breath away…”  Instead of trying to make it stop, this musical experience lets you release it for a time with great electric guitar runs and the relatable: “I’m a lost soul from another time.”

“Breath,” an ode to loss and survival. – Murray Attaway
