Ashleigh Flynn & the Riveters “Deep River Hollow”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Ashleigh Flynn & the Riveters’ song “Deep River Hollow” from their forthcoming album Good Morning Sunshine, which is set for release on April 4. The album was produced by Nancy Luca; engineered by Kati Sawicki and Ricky Wilkins; mixed by KP and Johnny Hawthorn; and mastered by Jon Neufeld.

“Deep River Hollow” is Ashleigh Flynn on lead vocals and acoustic guitar; Nancy Luca on electric guitar; Carmen Paradise on bass; Leila Chieko on drums;  Kat Fountain on harmonica; Kathryn Claire on harmony vocals; and Jenny Conlee on piano and organ.

In a “kick up your heels” style that’s brimming with tenacity and positivity, this song is a case in point that a song can apply to everyone. Were you abandoned by someone who you should have left, but you “let them bring you down,” or are you longing for someone who probably has no earthly idea with a crush that burns. A well-crafted modern take on a timeless form.

As a kid who grew up listening to bluegrass music at the Belvedere in Louisville KY, “Deep River Hollow” came in a flash…and with a disguise…the song has a double meaning…trickster…shadow versus light, all tucked up in a tidy and jiggable country twang. Which side do you hear? That of the knocked up teenager left lonely with her “burden” or that of the young trans kid trying to figure out what bathroom to use while wondering why s/he had such a terrible crush on the gym teacher? – Ashleigh
