Wild Mountain Mystics – “All You Need Is Love”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Wild Mountain Mystics’ cover of the Beatles song “All You Need Is Love” from their forthcoming album Fire and Honey, releasing via Blackbird Record Label. The album was produced by Ed Tree and Wild Mountain Mystics; recorded at the Treehouse and mixed by Ed Tree with interference from Wild Mountain Mystics. It was mastered by Mark Dann.
This interpretation of “All You Need Is Love” (Lennon/McCartney) is Rick Mystic on vocals, acoustic guitars, and handclaps; Lisa Mystic on vocals, mandolin, and handclaps; Marty Axelrod on keyboards and “sitar”; Debra Dobkin on drums and percussion; Ed Tree on electric guitars and handclaps; and Jime Van Booven on bass. The chorus vocals are Severin Browne, John Stowers, and Raspin Stuwart. Bright and shiny and shuffling forward at a flashy pace, this old timey folk style cover of the famed song really creates an alternate context – you can picture it being played by mandolin with handclaps on summertime porch in the mountains. A gentle and suprising shift from the ’60s pop scene, and it sounds great.
A Beatles classic. To us, it refers to the common experience of trying to figure out who we are, what we can do, where we should be. The song offers the idea that love is how we figure these things out. Love is always a timely message, and the holidays are a good time to be reminded of that message. We invited some of our friends from the folk community to play and sing with us on this song, so it’s a group effort. We’d all like to see more love in the world. – Rick and Lisa
