John Ebdon – “Light of Day”

Americana Highways presents this premiere of John Ebdon’s song “Light of Day” from his forthcoming album Blue, which is set to be released next summer. “Light of Day” was produced by John Ebdon and Calvin Venus; and engineered, mixed and mastered by Calvin Venus.  Ebdon’s lyrics are contemplative and poetic, as this song confronts family heritage and mortality in a somber milieu.

“Light of Day” is John Ebdon on vocals and piano; Michael Gungor (multiple GRAMMY nominee) on guitar and harmonium; Scott Mulvahill on upright bass; and Addison Freeman on cello and violin.

Raw and immediately empathetic with a bare bones production style, this song is agonizingly pretty.  The infinite poignancy of the love between a parent and child is immediately evoked here, and the instruments take their turns in a heady, respectable cinematic style production.  “Make sure your little girl knows you love her / Don’t let your boy lay down his name / Try to wake this world while there’s still light of day.”

This song is a story of the universal truth that unites us all, the connection between a mother and child. Included on this track are two musical heroes, Michael Gungor on harmonium and guitar, and Scott Mulvahill on upright bass. The track also features multiple cellos and violins to create a cinematic bedding allowing the main body of the music to rest in. We are currently working on our third studio album due out in 2025, and supporting our acclaimed second studio album “Home To Stay,” released November of 2023. – John Ebdon
