Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Sawyer Fredericks and Cassandra Kubinski’s song “Burn It Down,” which was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by James Mastrianni.
“Burn It Down” is Sawyer Fredericks on vocals and acoustic guitar’ Cassandra Kubinski on vocals and acoustic piano with James Mastrianni on additional programming.
This video was recorded at JEM Studio in Saratoga Springs. It was shot by Marin Mastrianni and edited by Tony Daniels with audio engineering by James Mastrianni.
Cassandra tells us: “People are always saying how tired they are of the “fake”, whether it’s overly slicked up production or marketing, AI generated everything, or just fake smiles and promises. One of my favorite parts of the Burn It Down collab with Sawyer is that everything is real, rootsy real, nothing fake kind of real. This video is literally just us, actually playing and singing, no auto tune, just simple and unadorned, live in studio. To be able to sing this song with him, this invitation to transform and reinvent yourself and let it be a glorious mess, is just an amazing gift. I hope the rawness and realness connect with anyone who needs these words and this energy.”
According to Sawyer: “I always feel more comfortable performing songs live so recording this was such a joy, Cassandra and I were just able to play through the song together, really get into the emotion of it all and then that was the take. This song is beautifully written and I love connecting to its smoldering anguish, and soulful lyrics. burning it down can be painful, but sometimes you need a clean slate.”
Sawyer’s dextrous guitar playing interweaves with Cassandra’s melodious piano playing, and then, when they sing, it really soars. Sawyer’s throaty tones wind around Cassandra’s emphatic ones and the result is fabulous. Watching it unfold on video is the icing on the cake.
