C. Daniel Boling – “All of Us Are Immigrants”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of C. Daniel Boling’s song “All of Us Are Immigrants” from his forthcoming album Love, Dan, which is due to be released on November 22. Love, Dan was co-produced by Jono Manson and Daniel Boling; recorded and mixed by Jono Manson at The Kitchen Sink Studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico; and mastered by David Glasser at AirShow in Boulder; with music consulting by Charlie Stewart of Handshake Management.

“All of Us Are Immigrants” is Daniel Boling on guitar and lead vocals; Kelly Mulhollan on humming; Char Rothschild on accordion and tin whistles; Jono Manson on humming; and Donna Mulhollan on humming.

Following in the footsteps of Richard Shindell’s “Deportees” this is classic, thoughtful folk song with the fitting choice of tin whistle and hums to add mournful gravity and an authentic emphasis.  “Juan arrived from Cuba just a couple weeks ago, Ernesto came a few years back from deep in Mexico…” and the stories unfold one after the next, with the video lending a layer of reality to the song’s portrayal of the immigrant background we all share.

A lot of us living in the U.S.A. today were born here. I wasn’t. I was born while my folks were stationed on an Air Force base in Bremerhaven, Germany, but they were both U.S.-born. Look back far enough though, and we find our ancestors weren’t. Nobody’s were – not even the folks living here before 1492. – C. Daniel Boling
