Pink 2024 Summer Carnival Tour with Sheryl Crow opening

Pink brought her 2024 Summer Carnival Tour to San Diego’s Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres and once again knocked it out of the park. The concert, really a cross between a rock concert and a cirque du soleil show was a true spectacle. The sound was great and the weather was perfect, especially after the brutal heat wave that just ended. The crowd was one of the most multi-generational crowds I have ever witnessed at a concert. They ranged from young pre-teens to retirees, and all of them stood for the entire 2-hours singing and dancing the night away. night! Some of the younger ones stood up on chairs to see over the adults and nobody seemed to mind.

The show starts on the giant video screens with a “Max Headroom” style version of Pink welcoming the crowd to the carnival. The animated Pink told them to get ready to laugh, cry and sing. Then she appears in a giant smiling mouth high above the stage. As the mouth opened, Pink smiled and waved at the crowd before plunging down towards the stage and performing aerial acrobatics all while singing “Get This Party Started” above a stage full of dancers, flamingos, giant ice cream cones , a huge disco ball and dazzling lights. There was so much happening on stage that to truly appreciate it, it’s better to be seated a little further back. It truly was a “carnival” Pink danced, interacted with the crowd, (at one point handing out packages of candy to a few audience members) performed aerial acrobatics and sang her heart out. There were explosions, fireworks, acrobats, giant flamingos and so much more. Pink received several gifts from audience members including pink roses, a beautiful turquoise pendant and a jacket with a painting hof her and her father on the back, which she wore for several songs, including “When I Get There” written for her father.

This is the second time I have seen this show and it was just as good if not better than the first time. The set consisted mainly of hit songs from her catalog but also included a couple covers, like Pat Benatar’s “Heartbreaker and 4 Non Blondes “What’s Up.” The latter had the entire crowd singing along. Pink closed out the show flying all around the stadium while performing “So What.” It truly was an amazing night of music and showmanship. To paraphrase the late, great Jimmy Buffett. Don’t try to describe a Pink concert if you’ve never seen one. The complete setlist is below.

Openers for the show were the Irish band, The Script and Sheryl Crow, with DJ KidCutUp performing in between sets. I was not able to make it on time for The Script. Sheryl Crow performed a set of her greatest hits including “Steve McQueen” and “If It Makes You Happy” and finishing off with “Everyday is a Winding Road.” She also did a great cover of Blondie’s “One Way or Another.” Her entire set was very high energy and a definite throwback to the 90’s. Setlist beneath Pink’s setlist.
