Jeff Cramer – “Ravens”

Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Jeff Cramer’s song “Ravens” from his new album Forever Morning, which was produced by Andrew Berlin, recorded at the Blasting Room in Fort Collins Colorado, and mastered by Greg Calbi.

“Ravens” was performed by Jeff Cramer (vocal, acoustic and electric guitar, piano), Emma Rose (bass and vocal), Max Barcelow (drums), and Dave Devine (electric guitar).

This video was filmed, recorded, and mixed by Payden Widner and Erik Fellenstein.  Ravens are widely known as mystical harbingers, and this song is an homage to what they deliver – messages of comfort and necessary provocation. Sometimes the need to look for a sign applies to a rough patch in relationships: “What is my reason for loving you anymore? How am I supposed to carry on? … So let’s take another ride to the valleys where the ravens fly from the mountains to the barren sands.” This song addresses that experience with lovely acoustic guitar playing and harmonies.

I started writing Ravens in the first person, and quickly realized that “I” was not the protagonist in the story. Ravens carry a special meaning for me.  I always seem to run into them when I’m “in it.” It’s like they are carrying some message that I receive telepathically in the days after our run ins.  It’s a comfort, too, of course, to always see them as a pair.  It reminds me of the importance of partnership, how the right partner can be your loyal co-pilot but also your “tor-mentor,” helping push you, grow, and I suppose ultimately nest and fly together. – Jeff Cramer
