Mean Mary – “Tarzan”
Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Mean Mary’s song “Tarzan” from her forthcoming album Woman Creature (Portrait of a Woman, Part 2) which is scheduled for release on October 4th.
This song will be available on September 6th.
Woman Creature (Portrait of a Woman, Part 2) was produced and arranged by Mary James; mixed by Dominic Romano; mastered by Adam Grover at Sterling Sound with werewolf art by Byz Artwork and inside and background cover art by Roselin Estephanía (watercolor).
“Tarzan” is Mary James on vocals, banjo, and guitar; Frank James on vocals and jungle animals (lion, elephant, chimpanzee, parrot); Oli Hayhurst on upright bass; and Larry Salzman on percussion.
Starting out with gentle banjo and vocals, this song steps into the wild ride of our unconscious “groggy minds” dream state. The wildness of the story picks up the pace with the banjo and rhythms keeping match. There are animal sounds, and we don’t get a lot of parrot sounds, but for this it’s perfect. What’s Tarzan have to do with it? Watch and see. The video essentially creates a short film of the dream. This album will be Mean Mary’s 19th release – so if you haven’t heard of her, it’s time.
My mom’s dream sparked the crazy storyline, though I’m not sure if she was actually sleeping when she dreamed it! Next thing I know, I’m recording the song, and it evolved into this wild track with fast banjo and my brother Frank making these crazy jungle animal sounds. – Mean Mary
