Brock Davis – Everyday Miracle
This singer-songwriter has a warm approach. There’s a pop pinch mixed with a generous gospel punch & troubadour vocals. Nice inventive way to provide a listener with distinctive music. “Everyday Miracle,” is easygoing, delicate & never compromises his ability to get his message across.
Brock (vocals/piano) does it more aggressively with the dynamic “Keep On,” which bangs around in the wind of musical notes without coming off the hinges. Nice backup vocals with full-spirited chorale support that thickens the sound with a Southern gospel push without getting too down-home religious. Voices are such a miracle sound when they sing in unison or harmony. It’s all here, it’s firing on all cylinders. And he does it again on “Ready For a Good Time.”
There are 13 captivating tunes on Everyday Miracle (Dropped June 14/July 26 North America/Raintown Records/43:41) produced in Nashville by Brock with Grammy Award-winning Zach Allen. The chorale arrangements are courtesy of Michael Hicks. The majority of Brock’s musical assessments include picturesque imagery & poetic insights & his country urgency mixed with the gravitational pull of the gospel voices is superb. Elvis Presley would’ve loved this artist.
The collaboration between these singers & Brock’s exceptional tenderized vocal style is the ticket. It’s almost like something that happens accidentally with intention. This showcase is so delicately powerful. The band itself cooks on some tunes with jubilant guitars & snappy drums. There’s a commercial edge but it’s never sweet & ponderous. “You’d Think I’d Know By Now” is a coherent country-rocker & essentially pop-perfection. This is where country music puts on a suit with shined boots rather than a cowboy hat & bolo tie.

Maybe the quality of these tunes comes from a deeper place – a hard reset. When songs are written that have been lived in – that’s where the artist meets the spirit. Brock Davis sings with lots of emotional splendor – he’s tasted enough hard luck to recognize when to “Give Forgiveness.” What a song that is.
Produced by Brock and Grammy award-winning engineer and producer Zach Allen (Keb’ Mo’) and features Marcus Finnie (Taj Mahal) on drums, Duncan Mullins (Luke Bryan) on bass, Rob McNelly (Bob Seger) on electric guitar, Pat McGrath (Jake Owen) on acoustic guitar, Michael Rojas (Stevie Nicks) on B3 organ and Russ Pahl (Kacey Musgraves) on pedal steel. Background vocals were sung by Kyla Jade, Devonne Fowkles and Maureen Murphy and were arranged by Michael B. Hicks
