Neale Eckstein – “Masterpiece”

Americana Highways presents this premiere of the song “Masterpiece,” co- written by Neale Eckstein and the recently passed Tom Prasada-Rao, from Neale’s forthcoming album Never Too Late, which is slated for release on October 11. This song will be available July 19. The album was produced by Neale Eckstein and Matt Nakoa;  recorded at Fox Run Studio in Sudbury Massachussetts; and  mastered by Jonathan Wyner at M-Works in Somerville MA.

Neale and his wife have co-hosted “Fox Run” concert series in their home for over 20 years, where Neale has also recorded for multiple artists in his Fox Run Studio.  Now, in celebration of Neale’s 75 birthday, friends have come together and co-created this album with him.  Enjoy the results, made especially more poignant with the recent passing of song co-writer Tom Prasada-Rao.

“Masterpiece” is Neale on vocals and acoustic guitar; Matt Nakoa on electric guitar, piano, and organ; Tom Prasada-Rao on vocals; Eric Schwartz on vocals and bass; and Jagoda on drums and percussion.

This song provides so many lovely, hazy images of the souvenirs of joyful children: “you drew me a picture on the back of a placemat, you were just four years old, you said it was you & me.”  Then let the waterworks come with:” I always thought that I was failing, but you were painting a masterpiece.”  It’s a bittersweet acknowledgment of the simple, pure love of children in our lives.

I wrote this song with Tom Prasada-Rao on Zoom during the lockdown when we were missing our grown kids and everyone else. It’s about my children, his children, and maybe your children. – Neale Eckstein
