Myles Cochran – “The Deepest Sea”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Myles Cochran’s song “The Deepest Sea” from his forthcoming album You Are Here, which is scheduled for release on July 26. This album has been dubbed Myles’ sprawling opus. It was produced, recorded, and mixed by Myles Cochran; and mastered by Tom Borthwick.

Myles Cochran played acoustic and electric guitars, lap steel, electric bass, piano, and drums on this song. As a consummate sound engineer crafting songs for several decades, Myles has carried multitudes of songs and song ideas in his head just waiting to be born.  His musical ideas come alive here on this instrumental song that’s moving, thoughtful, and varied, with riffs that lap at the edges of your mind: “The Deepest Sea.”

“The Deepest Sea” started out as an actual song — i.e. with lyrics and singing. It’ll eventually be a song again, but I liked this version so that’s how it wound up. It had its origins, as most of my stuff does, in a found line from an improvisation (the one that repeats throughout). Then, like a fungus, it grew… “The Deepest Sea” is one of my favorites on the album. I like the succession of different melodies and riffs, the way they build and intertwine. – Myles Cochrane
