Martha Spencer – “Sometimes”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Martha Spencer’s song, “Sometimes,” from her forthcoming album Out In La La Land, which will be released on May 17th, 2024 via Music Maker Foundation. The album was recorded at Mark Thornton’s Sidekick Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.
“Sometimes” has all the ingredients to feed the appetites of classic country music lovers. Martha Spencer’s beatific voice and superlative songwriting prowess are on full display in the solo live performance of her latest single set to be included on her newest project. Harkening back to country music’s golden age, “Sometimes” is a song that connects to listeners on a personal level. We all experience hardships as we navigate through life and “Sometimes” reminds us to take time for ourselves to heal. “Sometimes you just go to roam,” sings Spencer. “Sometimes you need to come home and sometimes you just need some time.”
I wrote this song last winter. For me, it’s a song about how to keep moving and surviving when things can be a bit hard. My mom would always say upwards and onwards. Whether that’s hitting the road or coming home, it can help mend a broken heart or troubled mind. And then there’s time. I recorded this song last spring in Nashville at Mark Thornton’s Sidekick Studios and it felt like the right place to be. A big thanks to everyone who played on the studio track: Jay Weaver on bass, Lillie Mae on harmonies, Griffin McMahon on country piano, Ian Cory on snare, and Chris Scruggs on steel and electric guitar. I did the live take session with Jake Dwyer (Shape Studios) in Sparta, North Carolina at the photoshoot for the album. Jake plays drums in my Wonderland Country Band and is an awesome engineer, videographer and photographer who did the cover photos and art as well for Out in La La Land. I’m excited to have this album coming out with Music Maker and Karpie Diem soon.
