Daniel Nickels – “Annabelle”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Daniel Nickels’ song “Annabelle” from his forthcoming EP Driving Us Home. Driving Us Home was recorded at Brokenworks studio in Ashland Oregon with engineer Jim Abdo. It was mixed and mastered with producer Dave Haven.
Musicians on this song are Daniel Nickels on guitar and vocals; Tony Kilcollins on drums; Marc Tramonte on bass; Phil Madeira (Alison Krauss, Garth Brooks) on Hammond organ; and Sammy Kovic on pedal steel.
Soaring heartland vocals hit you right off the bat with this cheerful blast of a song: “Annabelle…” and she stole all of his heart, but is it unrequited? Disarming and optimistic with a sunny country rock vibe, this song feels just right for the advent of springtime.
The song started out organically in the band and one day the words just started pouring out. I recorded one particular session and listened back and the word “Annabelle” kept coming out with a notion of “love him and leave him” in the verses. I did some lyric editing after that and gave it some structure. The vibe seemed upbeat and fun so we just kept working on it and playing it live. – Daniel Nickels
