“Good Reason to Stay” is Graham Thompson on guitar, electric guitar, mandolin and vocals; Joel Heywood and Patrick Evans on percussion; Emma Lusby on additional vocals; Dom Duddil on violin; and Joseph Nickson on double bass. Contemplative playing, musing lyrics, enjoyable vocals and a confession of overthinking are the hallmarks of this song. The gentleness draws you closer, and the harmonies are sorrowful and bittersweet. Breakups are so painful, and this song offers a new way of handling it: “here’s my last request, let the pictures fade from memory, and allow me to forget.”
“Good Reason To Stay” is my favourite track on Older No Wiser. Emma Lusby’s vocals perfectly grasp the bitter-sweet resignation I felt upon reaching the end of my relationship with whom the song is about. – Graham Thompson
