The Crane Wives – “The Well”

Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of The Crane Wives’ song “The Well,” which was produced by The Crane Wives; recorded and mixed by Ben Zito at Centennial Sound; and mastered by Trevor Richardson.

“The Well” is Emilee Petersmark on electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and vocals; Kate Pillsbury on electric guitar and vocals; Dan Rickabus on keyboard, drums, and vocals; and Ben Zito on bass.

Hues of deep dark pink and midnight blue and a slow moving animated buck are the visual anchors for this experimental song with the Crane Wives vocals harmonizing in heavy and chilling ways as they are absolutely brimming with home folk character.  They sound a little like a darker more earthy and woodsy Lori McKenna wrapped in more slow electric guitar. “They’re gonna drag you down.”   Here’s hoping an album follows this song.

“The Well” is the culmination of 6 years of evolution, both sonically and emotionally. Adding new textures with electric instruments and more atmospheric harmonies, we worked on creating an ethereal gravity around the raw vulnerability of the lyrics, bridging our favorite musical elements from our 2016 release with a fullness that reflects our growth in 2023. It’s an honor to give this song to an audience, it feels like an important milestone marking both where we’ve been and how far we’ve come. – The Crane Wives
