Gregg Hill – “Places In Between”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Gregg Hill’s song “Places in Between” from his forthcoming album Bayou St John, scheduled for release on September 15. The album was produced by Roland Guerin and Gregg Hill; mixed and mastered by Roland Guerin.  It was
recorded and pre-mixed by Marc Hewitt with additional recording by Jack Miele.

“Places in Between” is Gregg Hill on vocals and guitars; Doug Belote on drums; Roland Guerin on bass and vocals; and Joy Clark on vocals. Background vocal arrangement was by Lynn Drury.  Gregg Hill’s songs are an echo of James Taylor‘s style of folksong: humble, mellow and true.

The story in “Places in Between” is simply a clear and direct account of what is happening in my life right now. It’s quite literal. The production features a vibey guitar tone that references the mid ’70s “California Sound.” That mellow tone comes from some great vintage mics through a Harrison 32c board. Roland Guerin’s artful approach to the bass line and solo bring the New Orleans aesthetic to the song, which I think is very unique for an Americana tune and helps to drive the story forward. – Gregg Hill
