Marilyn Jordan — River Water
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Marilyn Jordan’s song “River Water” from her forthcoming album Both Things Are True. The album was produced by Clara Baker
and engineered by Bart Budwig. It is due to be released on March 3.
“River Water” is Marilyn Jordan on vocals and acoustic guitar; Clara Baker on resophonic guitar; and Niko Daoussis on percussion.
An album of ten songs written over ten years is a good sign for songs ripening to maturity in a world of fast paced songs churned out by the minute. Easygoing and thoughtful, the lyrics identify a challenging element of human experience — how to really understand the other, and, to add another layer, how to understand our own kids. Food for thought over pretty instrumental arrangements.
There was a time when one of my teen-aged kids was struggling, and I was struggling to understand how to help them. I was out driving and heard a scientist on the radio, explaining what happens when a river flows into the ocean, how the fresh water and salt water swirl around and try to figure out how to mix, and I thought: “That’s it! That’s exactly what’s happening with my kid and me.” And this song showed up. — Marilyn Jordan
