Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Mike Montrey Band’s song “I Can’t Wait Any Longer,” from their forthcoming record Searching For My Soul, with a video as well. The album was recorded at Magic Door Recording Montclair, NJ; produced by Marc Swersky; engineered by Chris Gold; mixed by Seth Von Paulus; and mastered by Leon Zervos.
“I Can’t Wait Any Longer” is Mike Montrey on guitars and vocals; Jen Augustine on vocals; John Ginty on Hammond b3 organ, piano, and Wurlitzer; Anthony Duca on bass; Jack Stanton on pedal steel; Brian Prokop on drums and percussion; and Marc Swersky on bass. Building up from a killer groove, this song speaks to longing and hope for connection. “Too many times this has happened to me … I can’t wait any longer to get you to me.” When it’s right it’s so so good, and Montrey nails that sense in the song. Footage of the band playing on vintage television screens juxtaposed with beautiful shots of nature and animals highlight the timeless purity of the feeling.
Inspired by the guitar riff itself, that starts the song. Musically, I initially heard that at a faster tempo, but Marc Swersky implemented a killer groove. Lyrically, it speaks to the familiar theme of waiting for a woman or a man, in hopes that you can connect, both emotionally and physically, emphasizing how badly you need both, but simultaneously afraid that neither will come to fruition. — Mike Montrey
