Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways presents this song premiere of Micky & the Motorcars’ “Rodeo Girl” from their upcoming album Long Time Comin’ due November 1st.  Long Time Comin’ (Thirty Tigers) was produced by Keith Gattis, recorded and mixed by Kevin Szymanski with additional recording by Kevin Gattis. The album is Micky Braun on vocals and acoustic guitar, Gary Braun on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars and harmonica, Bobby Paugh on drums, Pablo Trujillio on guitar and Joe Fladger on bass. It also features Keith Gattis on vocals, electric and baritone guitars, bass, percussion, mandolin and bazooki; with Fred Eltringham on drums and percussion; Billy Mercer on bass; Cody Braun on backing vocals and fiddle; Audley Freed on electric and baritone guitars; John Henry Trunk on B3, Wurlitzer, accordion and keys; and Mickey Raphael on harmonica.

With its power shuffle rhythms, “Rodeo Girl” is quite simply an old fashioned country love song, with the depth of musical quality Americana fans are looking for these days.  “You take the reins and you ease my pain and you know just what to do,” are some of the thoughtful lyrics that are just right — not too simple, not too difficult to understand — and make this alt country love song so easy to love.  And the rest of the album follows suit.

I wrote ‘Rodeo Girl’ with my brother Gary. He had the idea and a good start on it when he brought it to me. Him and I both rode a lot of horses and worked on ranches as kids. I road saddle bronc horses in rodeos for a while. We thought it would be fun to write a song about the cowgirls who rodeo, and just have a fun story song. — Micky Braun
