Song Premiere: Philippe Bronchtein’s “Learning How to Say Goodbye”

Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Phillippe Bronchtein’s “Learning How to Say Good-bye,” from his upcoming EP Oregon Air. The album was produced by Philippe Bronchtein & Sean Sullivan, engineered by Sean Sullivan, and mastered by Gus Elg. The album artwork is by Alec Zemper, with photo by Laura Partain.  The album is Philippe Bronchtein on vocals, acoustic guitar, pedal steel, and B3 organ, Sam Wilson on vocals, and electric guitar, Max Brown on bass and Josh McCewn on drums;  “Learning How to Say Goodbye” features Max Brown on bass and Bronchtein playing the acoustic guitar, organ and pedal steel himself.  Bronchtein is the organist for the duo War and Treaty.

With its acoustic fingerstyle guitar and haunting organ, you will get chills once Bronchtein’s grainy gruff vocal tones appear.  He’s “looking for a rhyme or two,”  and “the stars are looking blurry tonight” as he’s “learning how to say good-bye.”  Phillippe Bronchtein is the kind of songwriter whose lines will stick with you, and we recommend Oregon Air very highly.

“Learning How to Say Goodbye” was a song that broke the seal after a long stretch of writers block. I had recently relocated to Madison, TN, and was living on a friend’s property that backed right up to the Cumberland River. In the middle of winter, we were experiencing some uncharacteristically heavy rainfall. The river was well above its banks & moving very quickly. I drew inspiration from the swollen river to write a meditation about gracefully moving on. — Philippe Bronchtein
