Americana Highways brings you this song premiere from Swedish Americana musician Janne Saaristo.  Fans of Americana music know that there’s international support for Americana musicians in Sweden, the UK, Norway, and Germany too.  Here’s a chance to check out some of their own music.  “Yesterday” is from the upcoming album Never Say Ever Again (Dead Frog Records), due out on October 19.
“Yesterday” was written and composed by Saaristo, who also played guitars, acoustic and electric, the vocals and bass guitar on the track while Andreas Purvén played the drums, Gunnar Frick played piano and Hanna Klumbies played cello, with backing vocals by Kai Saaristo and Anna Nordqvist, as well as harmonica by Justus Hultgren. On the rest of the album Gunnar Frick also reappears on piano, pedal steel, organ and accordion.
The song is lyrically catchy as it provides encouragement to avoid dwelling on the troubles we face.  Instead, it urges us to dance our way though them, because after all “yesterday was just the day before today.”  There’s something really compelling about the music, with its layered parts over piano melodies.
This is a song about not facing your problems and you choose to stay in your own self-absorbed unhappiness instead of facing them and getting it over with. — Janne Saaristo
