Rosedale Junction – Goin’ Off the Rails

Rosedale Junction is a bluesy roots band implanted in Boston and churning out pulsing blues with thoughtful bluesy grooves that take their time getting us there.  Their latest release, Goin’ Off the Rails, is a down-home charmer.

The title track features actual recording of Boston’s MBTA’s Green Line, electric blues and ethereal harmonies. This song achieves blast off with: “Ain’t gonna lie, the pressure’s real high, I’m going off the rails.”

“Chicken Man Blues” winds up and down with some spoken vocals and a funky groove: “my dog just up and ran away, dug a hole under the fence, had no idea where he went…chicken man, don’t shoot my dog, it’s my only one.”

“Quarter Mile Blues” features some notable, ethereal but powerful harmony vocals as the blues continues the pace and drives you with the pedal to the metal.   On “Buckland Street’ there’s smooth harmonica and more of a rootsy feel, as they bring it down a step to a more sorrowful bluesy lament.  “Momma Sure Was Right” again continues the reflective Southern blues vibe – “momma done warned me.”

On these songs there are a lot of nice ‘n easy grooves, and it’s like being in the eye of a hurricane: there’s a suave vibe and an atmosphere of calm in the midst of everything whirling around us.

Musicians on the album are Tony Soriero on vocals and guitar;  Jim Riley (Rascal Flatts) on drums; Roger Smith (Tower of Power) and Phil Madeira (Emmylou Harris) on keys; Trent Williamson on harmonica; Andy Ellison on pedal steel; Dgiovahni Denizevahni, Elishema Mannie, Joel Jorgensen, and Richard Farrell (Trainman Blues) on vocals; and horn arrangement by Mark Morgan (Junkin’ Down and Funkin’ Up).
