Afton Wolfe “I Deserve To Be Forgiven”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Afton Wolfe’s song “I Deserve To Be Forgiven” from his forthcoming album Ophiuchus, which is set for release on November 30. This song will be available on November 23. The album was produced by Afton, recorded at Grey Gardens Studio, engineered by Ryon Westover, mixed and mastered at Wirebird Productions by Brett Ryan Stewart, and mastered for physical (CD/vinyl) by Oz Fritz.

“I Deserve to Be Forgiven” is Afton Wolfe on vocals and guitar;  Chad Stuible on vocals and piano; Seth Fox on vocals; Lucca Soria on vocals; Brian Wright on guitar; Daniel Seymour on bass; Smith Curry on pedal steel; and Madison George on drums.

Piano and electric guitar buoy Afton’s gravelly low Springsteen-like vocals as he confesses a long string of doing wrong: “I’ve been rock bottom for more than a couple of wonderful women who turned out to be excellent mothers … I’ve lied and cheated, stolen and gambled, and shown up for formal events woefully underdressed.” The song allows for a slight tongue-in-cheek veil over some more serious regrets of not doing our best. And then the lightness that follows is conveyed nicely with the harmonies vocals chiming in and the message shows through: we need to forgive ourselves for all of it.

Afton’s observation on the song is that: “This obviously extended from a lifetime of making mistakes, distilled into a specific discussion and a universal sentiment.”
