Michael Rudd “This Life is Made for Me”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Michael Rudd’s song “This Life is Made for Me” from his forthcoming album Ways of the World, which is set for release on February 27 via Invisible Road Records. This song will be available on October 31. Ways of the World was produced by Michael Rudd and recorded at Frogville Studios in Santa Fe. The album was recorded, engineered and mixed by Jason Reed and mastered by Carl Saff.
“This Life is Made for Me” is Michael Rudd on vocals and acoustic guitar; Pat Malone on electric guitar; Mark Clark on drums; Brant Leeper on Hammond organ; and Asher Barreras on upright bass.
Michael tells us that “I wrote ‘This Life is Made for Me’ from the perspective of an adult still confronting the long half-life of childhood abuse. The form of the abuse is uncertain, but its lifelong effect is deep and unrelenting. Many people in my life suffer or suffered from the trauma of emotional or physical abuse that occurred years or even decades ago. For some, what happened took away some part of themselves, and they want that back. The narrator feels the same way, with the chorus of the song – “This life is made for me” – emerging as both a demand and a prayer.”
Cymbals set up a jazzy beckoning for this easygoing, reflective song that later is carried along by rhythm, organ and restrained guitar. At times, it seems forces are conspiring in life just to watch us work through obstacles and limits on what really makes us happy. Michael explores this with a casual confidence that eventually, we can have the life we love. Inspiring and believable. “I sit on the bank at the river of time / All the things you were given, you gave me in kind / They float on the water like feathers and leaves / The current can’t take them, they do as they please.”
