Michael Haney “Lucky One”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Michael Haney’s song “Lucky One,” which was produced and mixed by Ben Jackson; recorded at East End Studio in Nashville; and mastered by Duncan Ferguson. It will be released on October 24 via Rock Ridge Music.
“Lucky One” was written and composed by Michael Haney and Tony Lucca; with Michael on vocals; Ben Jackson on drums, percussion, keys and Hammond B3 organ; Luis Espaillat on bass; Brian Fechino on acoustic and electric guitars; Brad Sample on electric guitar; and Kaleb Thomas Jones on background vocals.
Michael tells us that “Writing “Lucky One” with Tony Lucca was just what the song needed. For months in 2024, I drove my friends crazy by humming and singing the melody seemingly everywhere I went—it was one of those tunes that wouldn’t leave me alone. It felt haunting in the best way, like it demanded to find its voice and become something more than just a loop in my head.
“What I’m most grateful for is Tony’s guidance in shaping the direction of the song. He has such a natural instinct for pulling out the heart of an idea and making it shine. Where I only had this haunting line/melody running through me, Tony helped me channel it into a complete story, giving the melody purpose and grounding it needed. His input turned it into something that could resonate with others, and I’ll always appreciate the way he elevated “Lucky One” into the song it was meant to be.”
The uptempo guitar rhythm opens into a heartland rock musical underpinning for this sincere song of promises and love: “I’m waiting but you’re playing a game I know I can’t win / White lies in your eyes round and round we go again / By now you’d think somehow the odds might be in my favor / I find it’s high time I lay my cards down on the table.”
