Henri Herbert “If I Could”
Americana Highways presents this video premiere of Henri Herbert’s version of Snooks Eaglin’s song “If I Could” from Henri’s forthcoming new album, Get it While its Hot, which will be released on November 7th. The album was recorded by Niko Leophonte at Alnico Studio in Austin, Texas. It was mixed by Jim Jones in London, and mastered by Chris Frasco in Nashville.
This video was filmed by John Grubbs at Red Leaf Music School in Austin, Texas. Musicians playing in the video are Henri Herbert on piano and vocals; Niko Leophonte on drums; Zach Youpa on guitar; and Josh Williams on bass.
As Henri tells us, “I always loved this song by the great Snooks Eaglin and I’m glad we got it down. It’s one I play live at nearly every show. Snooks was a great artist and a bit overlooked in my opinion. My old bandmate Jim Jones from the UK overdubbed some cool guitar, but apart from that we just cut the whole song live in Austin Texas – what you hear is what we did.”
Henri’s piano playing is slick and groovy. This song is grounded in timeless R & B and a bluesy foundation with a more subtle modern vocal cadence and the result is quite addictive. The studio footage of the video allows you to feel like you are part of it all from the inside. The song’s core sentiment is conveyed sweetly and the feeling is universal: “If I could just get you to love me, I surely would!”
