Scott Low “Goin’ Down the Road Feelin’ Bad”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Scott Low’s version of the traditional song made popular by the Grateful Dead “Goin’ Down the Road Feelin’ Bad” from Low’s forthcoming album Grateful Blues, which is set for release on October 1o. The album was  recorded and produced by Scott Low, and mastered by Joel Hatstat, with artwork by Adam O’Day.

This version of  “Goin’ Down the Road Feelin’ Bad” is Scott Low on guitars (acoustic, tricone, biscuit cone, 12 string, electric, lap steel), vocals, and shaking the jar of googly eyes; Kyle Jerome on vocals, saxophone, and percussion; Jeremy “The Col.” Corn on keyboards; Fisher Wilson on electric and stand up bass; Shawn Corbett on drums; and Gabe Murray on Tibetan singing bowls.

Heartfelt with an easy laid back vibe, this song is done in just the right way to do a cover: keeping the essence of the original in a new musical form. It’s free of stress and showmanship, just the core of the song in a bluesy framework. A great idea expressed excellently. This video was created by Eddy Nava and it’ll make you feel like you’re hangin’ right there with the band.

As Scott tells us, “We are so proud of this self produced album bringing my Appalachian Blues together with one of my first musical loves, The Grateful Dead. The dead started as a blues band and then blended in some lsd, so we took the old traditional standards they began with and twisted em up for our region and sound.”
