Buffalo Jones Celebrate
Buffalo Jones has a new album Celebrate set to be released this Friday. This is a heavy heartfelt, grungy roots rock style album that sometimes flexes heavier in style. It’s 8 songs that expose some of the unnecessary games people play, as the music compels you to, as the title suggest, celebrate instead.
Opening the album, “Caught in the Middle” uses a sustained chord to draw you in and then pops out into a roots rock style song about drama that draws you in that might all be about nothing after all: “you tried to tell me but I couldn’t hear, things won’t always be so crystal clear, no one will remember in a year anyway. Just don’t get caught in the middle.” “Why Try To Win” carries a related concept forward with a heavy rhythm in a lament about obstacles that keep coming: “it’s all the same.”
“Before the Night Is Through” Southern rock style organ in a grunge-casual “if you’re feeling lonely, I can come around and be your one and only at least while in town. ‘Cause I don’t belong here, you know it’s true.”
“How Can I Live Without You” is a hopping version of Cracker’s song, written by David Lowery.
Album closer “A Hole” adds violin and cello to the electric instruments and explores a unique metaphor: “there’s a hole over there so watch your step / don’t drop your keys or we’ll be walking home, hang on to our wallet and your phone.” Anxiety about what might happen plagues us all, and Buffalo Jones pegs it.
The songs on Celebrate delve into various dilemmas and dramas that invariably repeat as patterns in life, and advocate stepping away and kicking back for awhile in spite of it all. Shake it off. All the scenarios are played out over smashing cathartic rootsy grunge arrangements. Also notable, all five members of Buffalo Jones sing. https://buffalojonesmusic.com/about-the-band
